Hello and welcome! I am a Professor of Religious Studies at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis where I teach courses on American Religion, Native American religions, early American history, and research methods. I have published essays in the Washington Post, Inside Higher Ed, Academe, and Religion and Politics. My scholarship explores religious and cultural encounters between Native peoples and Europeans at mission sites. A few things about me: I grew up in New Hampshire, enjoyed my first Midwestern sojourn as a student at Carleton College, and then returned to New England to complete a PhD in history at Yale. I came to IUPUI in 2004 after 5 years in the Pacific Northwest. You can email me at wheelerr@iu.edu or follow me on Twitter and Academia.edu.
